In 2008, my wife decided to go back to college for another degree. As a result, I had to do something to stay out of her way; and she was either in class or studying up to 18 hours a day.
So I began pulling a list of my favorite songs together so I could play them while I worked. When the kids would walk into my office, they would say, “Oh, Dad is listening to his geezer tunes again.”
After showing my list to several friends, they suggested I put it on the web. What began as a few of my favorite songs has turned into a database of over 45,000 songs, and that number continues to rise every time I can play around with it. What started as my favorites from the late 1960’s to 1989, turned into a list of songs from 1900 through 1990.
All Geezer-Tunes.com does is compile everything already out there into a single source. You can search by Artist, and/or Song Title, and/or Rank, and/or Year, and/or Lyric, to find the song you want to listen to. And again, I’ve not posted any of this; it’s all already out there. I’m just pulling it all together in a single resource.
I’ll continue to tweak links and lyrics, but there are some songs, that although you will see listed, I refuse to link either because of the lyrics and/or the video. Call it censorship if you wish, but I call it being responsible to those who may choose to play around with Geezer-Tunes.com.
Well, I hope you enjoy Geezer-Tunes. My kids named it and my son developed the logo; so this is a family effort. This web-site is about the music. Those certain songs that can take me back, exactly, to where I was and what I was doing when I remember first hearing it. Find “that” song, and go back in time.
An update: I recently acquired the domain GeezerTunes.com, and it will take you to Geezer-Tunes.com. Have fun!
